Omar Darwazah is an avid traveler, photographer, collector, thinker, writer and entrepreneur. His perspectives on life have drawn inspirations from his unique travel experiences meeting with people from all walks of the globe. Omar has lived, studied and worked in Cairo, Chicago, London, Montreal, Margarita Island in Venezuela and Paris and currently resides in New York City. To-date, Omar has visited 693 destinations in 79 countries.
Omar earned a Bachelors’ degree in Economics and Political Science with Honors from the University of Chicago in 2005 and a Master’s in Business Administration from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 2015. Upon graduating from college, Omar worked as a consultant for Deloitte & Touche Tohmatsu in Chicago, managed Investor Relations for Orascom Construction Industries in Cairo and was a Director at OCI N.V. based in New York City.
Today, Omar is a General Partner at Arab Angel Fund (AAF), a $25 million venture capital fund focused on early stage startup investments in North America with expansion capabilities in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), the Middle East and North Africa Regions (MENA). Omar also sits on the Board of various startups and associations including GoldCleats Inc., the Middle East Venture Capital Association (MEVCA), the Middle East Investor Relations Association (MEIRA) and founded and sold his own startup, Premier Foods SAE, which managed two gourmet fast food brands in Egypt. Omar also advises the NY Edtech accelerator and Rutgers University’s Big Data Certificate Program.
Omar is an American citizen of Palestinian/Egyptian heritage. Having multiple nationalities, speaking several languages and exhibiting a heightened sensitivity for local, social and cultural idiosyncrasies whilst traveling, Omar considers himself a global citizen. In addition to his love for technology, photography and travel, Omar is interested in international film and film production and was executive producer on “Baby Mine”, a short feature film which was nominated at three UK-based BAFTA qualifying festivals – best film at Aesthetica, best directing, best cinematography and best editing awards at Underwire Festival and the London Short Film Festival. More recently, Omar was an executive producer on a short feature film called “Lab Rat”, a sci-fi thriller exploring the future impact of artificial intelligence on humanity.
Although this website is primarily dedicated to his work as a travel photographer/videographer, Omar uses it to blog on his travel experiences, provides reviews on restaurants, hotels and other places of interest and shares his thoughts on life.
