The Caves: Negril, Jamaica

No wonder the Caves is ranked one of the 50 Best Resorts in the Caribbean by readers of Condé Nast’s Traveler magazine in 2014. I stayed at the property during May 2015 and was in awe at the resort’s impeccable service, hospitality and most importantly its location.

The all-inclusive resort is situated on a breathtaking cliff in Negril offering spectacular views of the Caribbean and picturesque sunsets. It is extremely unique as it intelligently uses the topography of the cliffs to create a setting that is difficult to replicate anywhere else. While there is no private beach, the resort has thematically used the caves on-site and the various cliffs to offer entertainment to its guests. There are a plethora of caves to swim and dive in to and there are several cliffs (the highest at 32 feet!) where guests can jump from. The world renown 7 Mile Beach in Negril is only a 10 minute cab ride away so have no fear!

While the hotel is geared towards couples, I went with my family (family of four) and decided to book the Clandestino Villa since all other villas overlooking the Caribbean were booked. The villa came with a private butler, a pool and could easily house 10 people comfortably – this is ideal for a bachelor party, two families with children or a group of couples. The villa is secluded from the main resort and is accessed through a private tunnel that links the resort to the villa and allows one to avoid crossing the street in between. Our butler, Leon Simpson, was absolutely fantastic! He was quickly integrated in to the family during our stay and we hung out with him and the staff at the hotel in the evenings – a truly incredible way of making one feel at home.

The resort had several other perks; for example the hotel bar was open 24/7 (stocked with top shelf liquor) and is self-service during off hours, one could have dinner in a different area of the resort each night as long as bookings are made ahead of time (one can have dinner in one of the caves, literally!) and breakfast, lunch and dinner rotated a different menu everyday which kept the palates coming back for more.

Overall, I cannot recommend the hotel more! It is conveniently located close to the 7 Mile Beach in Negril and offers incredible seclusion and highly personalized service. Add to that the incredible Jamaican hospitality and you’ve found yourself your next paradise (and resort!) destination in the Caribbean!
