Pura Vita Resort: Koh Rong Island, Cambodia

I stayed at the Pura Vita Resort on Kong Rong Island for 4 nights in January 2016 and would have done anything to extend!

First, let me get something out of the way. I’m surprised there are any negative reviews for the property. This place is meant to be a little rough, simple, austere and embodies the ideal vacation of getting away from it all. Other Tripadvisors are correct in saying that the bungalow is simple and might seem a bit dirty but any inconveniences felt from the state of the bungalow is mitigated by the fact that you are situated on an incredibly beautiful secluded beach.

I would stay again at Pura Vita because of the seclusion and privacy of the beach. The resort is a 15-minute boat ride from the main port located in the small village on the island and is situated on Sonaya Beach; a 4km stretch of beach offering breathtaking views, crystal clear waters and soft sands. The location of the resort is ideal for snorkeling, swimming and walking along the coastline. It is quiet, peaceful and absolutely gorgeous. There is a pier that one can walk along to take in the beautiful panoramas of the beach and the property.

The food at the resort was pricey but incredibly delicious, I typically had breakfast and lunch there and saved dinner for town. The food is fresh, varied and very tasty and was offered from traditional international and Khmer dishes.

In order to visit the town, the resort can arrange for a water taxi to pick one and drop one back off. However, it is important to note that these water taxis do not run late in the evening and will be able to make a final pickup from town back to the resort at approximately 10:30pm. The taxi is also expensive on a per person basis but is the only quick way to go to town. The alternative is a several hour hike from the resort. The town is small, hippie, laid-back and offers several good food and drinking options and definitely worth the visit multiple times.

Overall, I highly recommend the Pura Pita Resort, the staff is friendly, attentive and speaks good English. The location is secluded and ideal for couples, a romantic getaway, groups of friends or even single travelers who would like to get away from it all. The beds in the bungalows are comfortable and the shower adequate and the overall accommodate austere yet comfortable. The food is pricey but tasty and varied and finally the beach is out of this world and for that I would come back in a heartbeat.
